A spriggan is one of the many kinds of spirits that inhabit the Spiritworld. Native to the vast woodlands of the Ancient Lands, spriggans appear as vaguely humanoid creatures consisting of tightly interwoven branches, roots, and vines, with hair of twigs, leaves, and moss. The facial features of a spriggan are very minimalistic, consisting of just two eyes that range in colors from ember to green, and a small thin mouth, which gives them the appearance of primitive wooden masks.

Each spriggan has a territory that can be several miles across, but they are most commonly found in a grove of very old trees at the very center. Travelers passing through the territory of a spriggan without starting large fires or killing large numbers of animals are usually ignored and allowed to pass without confrontation. But doing any significant damage to its forest or approaching the grove in the heart of the spriggans territory causes it to react very violently against intruders. Most people avoid going to parts of the forest near their villages that are known to be home to a spriggan as to not accidentally offending it in any way.

While the wooden claws of a spriggan can cause severe wounds on unprotected skin and flesh, it will usually rely on its magical powers to attack unwanted intruders. A spriggan has the ability to make roots and branches of the plants within its domain come to life and attack and it can also call the animals of the forest to come to its aid in a fight. It is quite common to find a bear or a small group of boars or large eagles near the home of a spriggan and it can also send smaller animals to damage the equipment and supplied of intruders it wants to leave without starting a fight right away.
