A treant is a very powerful kind of woodland spirit that appears like a very large and old tree with arms and legs. Treants usually blend in very well with the regular trees of their homes, having similar forms of leaves and bark which make it very difficult to spot a treant that is standing motionlessly. Treants can live for thousands of years and compared to mortals almost all of them that currently living in the Ancient Lands are extremely old. Even the smallest treants stand about 6 meters tall and many are significantly larger than that, with some ancient giants reaching heights of 30 meters or more.

Treants are usually found only in the deepest and most ancient parts of the forests, far away from any regions where people have settled, and they only very rarely get involved in the affairs of the mortal races. While very intelligent and wise, the mind of a treant is very different from that of any mortal race and even most other spirits and few shamans have been able to get any kind of useful information out of them. Most of the time, treants seem to simply want to be left alone and don't care for the concerns of lesser creatures. On some occasions, druids living in outlying villages have been able to get treants to assist them in fights against their enemies by convincing them that it is in their own best interest to do so. But few things other than attacks by sorcerers and their demonic minions, which leave permanent marks on the woodlands, can cause a treant to feel threatened.

Because of its massive size, a treant is very difficult to harm, even with weapons made from silver or fire. Even the youngest possess a strength that rivals giants and there is very little that can be done against a treant that attacks other than the magic of a very powerful shaman or witch.
